Best Seafood on the Sunshine Coast: Fish, Prawns and Ocean Dining

The Sunshine Coast's proximity to Mooloolaba Harbour, one of Queensland's busiest commercial fishing ports, gives the region access to exceptionally fresh seafood year-round. Mooloolaba is the natural starting point, with fish markets at the harbour offering whole fish, prawns and bugs direct from local boats, and several restaurants nearby serving what was landed that morning. Noosa's Hastings Street and Noosaville's riverfront dining strip are popular for upmarket seafood dining with Noosa River views. The Caloundra Fishermen's Co-op at Landsborough Parade also sells fresh local catch direct. Queensland bugs, coral trout, snapper and fresh prawns are the regional highlights when in season. Availability varies with the catch; asking what is fresh on the day is always the right approach.
