Sunshine Coast Hinterland: Montville, Maleny and the Glass House Mountains

The Sunshine Coast hinterland rises steeply from the coastal plain into a range of volcanic peaks and subtropical plateau towns. Montville and Maleny are the two most visited hinterland villages, connected by a winding ridge road with views over the Glass House Mountains and coastal plain. Montville is known for its European village aesthetic, craft galleries and cafes, while Maleny has a stronger community cooperative character with local food and art. The Glass House Mountains themselves, a series of volcanic plugs south of the hinterland towns, are visible from across the region and offer walking tracks through Sunshine Coast Hinterland National Park. The summit tracks of several peaks (including Ngungun and Beerburrum) are accessible to reasonably fit walkers.
