Group exercise classes at council-run facilities: a guide
Sunshine Coast Council facilities now run scheduled group fitness sessions that residents can join without private gym memberships.
How we reported this

Sunshine Coast Council opened new group exercise timetables on 1 July 2026 at four council venues, giving residents access to yoga, circuit training and aqua classes for a flat $12 per session.
Interest in these sessions has risen after several residents reported better consistency when exercising near home rather than driving to commercial gyms. Council data shows walk-in numbers at its main sites increased 18 percent in the first half of 2026 compared with the same period last year.
Venues and class types
The Caloundra Community Centre on Bulcock Street runs morning circuit classes every Tuesday and Thursday at 7 am, while the Mooloolaba Aquatic Centre beside the Esplanade offers aqua aerobics on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 9:30 am. Both sites sit within easy reach of bus routes and street parking, and participants can book through the council website or at the front desk on the day.
Further north, the Noosa Leisure Centre near the national park coastal track added a weekly outdoor boot camp on the adjacent oval that starts at 6:30 am on Saturdays. Instructors draw on research from the University of the Sunshine Coast health programs to adjust intensity for different age groups.
Costs, bookings and next steps
Residents pay $12 per class or $96 for a 10-visit pass that stays valid for three months. Concession holders receive a $3 discount after showing a valid seniors or health-care card. All sessions require online registration at least 24 hours ahead to manage numbers, with spots released each Monday morning.
Anyone unsure about fitness levels can attend a free 15-minute assessment at the chosen venue before signing up. Council staff recommend starting with one class per week and building from there, and they direct participants with medical conditions to consult their local GP before beginning.
